I got an email from Chuck Tomasi yesterday and I learned, that The Project Management Podcast has made it into the "New & Notable" category on the front page of iTunes (see pic). Ok... ok... I guess that any Podcast will at some time be featured here, but I am glad to see that my show is getting some great exposure in a prime spot.

No luck for the PMO recording.

Visit us at our new home: www.THEpmpodcast.com.

Yesterday evening I attended the board meeting of the Project Management Institute, Orange County Chapter (PMI-OC). I asked the board's permission to record speakers at PMI-OC events. The request was denied. This was somewhat expected, but it now means that I will be unable to use the recording of Chris Peduzzi's speech "So you want to build a PMO? Good luck!" in my show. I will however provide a copy of the recording to Chris and will link to it from here, should he decide to share it on the web.

This is part 2 of my review of the PMI 2005 Leadership Seminar in Toronto, Canada. (Part 1 is here.) In this show, I give a brief overview of part 1, give my review of the seminars that I attended on day two, talk about the nuggets of wisdom from each of the seminars and give a final verdict on the seminar as a whole. This show is full of voices from other attendees of the seminar and they tell you why they attend and what they have learned at the seminar.

In today's show we are talking about project failure. We'll look at the numbers of failing projects quoted in various statistics and the critical success factors identified in order to have a successful project. But most importantly, we want to know how project managers who are faced with a failure manage and cope with this failure.

So, you want to build a PMO? Good luck!

Visit us at our new home: www.THEpmpodcast.com.

Last night, at the monthly Dinner Meeting of the PMI-OC, I had the chance to listen to and record Chris Peduzzi's speech called "So you want to build a PMO? Good luck!" Chris is a very entertaining and engaging speaker who took his listeners on the tour of two PMO case studies in which he was involved. He also had a lot of good advice for his listeners - about 4 slides worth of great "nuggets of wisdom" for us all. You can look forward to hearing Chris's speech on The Project Management Podcast, as soon as I get the OK from the PMI-OC board of directors that I am actually allowed to make these recordings at their dinner meeting. (In this case, I recorded first and will ask for forgiveness later... ;-)

Several times a year, the Project Management Institute (PMI) holds Leadership Meetings all around the globe. Allright! After three weeks of planning, learning and fighting with inadequate technology I have finally finished the first show. This is the introductory show of The Project Management Podcast in which I tell you, why you should care, subscribe and listen to the future shows. I am introducing myself, my background in project management, how I got the idea of creating The Project Management Podcast and what kind of shows you can expect in the future.

In the show, I mention that I found some freely available audio content discussing project management. You can find the links to these in my post from August 18, 2005. The music used on the show is by rimela.

The next show(s) will be recorded at the 2005 PMI Leadership Meeting in Toronto, which lasts from September 8.-10. 2005. I will not be able to record anything during the actual presentations. Instead, I will make this a good and educational review for those PMI chapter boardmembers out there who are unable to attend.

Recording The First Show (or not)

Visit us at our new home: www.THEpmpodcast.com.

I decided that today was the day when I would be recording the first show, an introductory podcast, in which I will tell my listeners why they should care to listen. I got everything ready, made over an hour of soundchecks with various recording levels.

Then I am ready to do this. I press record and walk over to the microphone. At that very moment, a gardener on the other side of the street begins blowing dust and all you can hear is the whirring noise of his blower. My first reaction was - of course - "you've got to be kidding me!". Then I saw the humor in the situation, stopped recording and began surfing around a bit.

30 minutes later, the neighborhood is quiet. I hit record, and as I sit down in front of the mic the blower starts up again. This time, I laugh out loud. These are the moments when I wish I had a cellar.

Project Quality Planning & Execution

Visit us at our new home: www.THEpmpodcast.com.

The one thing that I was really worried about all this time was the sound quality that I would provide to listeners of The Project Management Podcast. No combination of hardware that I own was capable of producing a good sound. Lots of reading up on microphones and recommendations from other podcasters. In the end, I decided to buy the Logitech USB Desktop Microphone. A $30 investment that yields a good sound quality. Very nice to get me started for the initial shows.
